Midland Metro - Westside extension from Centenary Square to Hagley Road, Edgbaston

The Westside Metro extension from Centenary Square, along Broad Street to the Hagley Road terminus outside Morrisons. Built from 2019 to 2022. It could open ETA June 2022.

The Westside Metro extension to the Hagley Road terminus as of May 2022 is still not open. Although it could open by June 2022 (over 6 months later than originally planned). Over April and May 2022, West Midlands Metro have been testing trams along Broad Street and Hagley Road, while Midland Metro Alliance put the finishing touches to the line.

Update: trams will resume from Wolverhampton St George's to Birmingham Bull Street on 5th June 2022. But not enough trams going back into service to go all the way to Library or Edgbaston.

So far, only buses and taxis have come into service on Broad Street, you can even catch a bus from here (if not a tram just yet).

Construction 2019 - 2022

Phase Two of the Birmingham Westside extension sees the Midland metro tramway extended from the Library of Birmingham tram stop in Centenary Square to Hagley Road in Edgbaston (west of Five Ways). This extension takes in all of Broad Street.

In total, the extension from Centenary Square to the terminus on Hagley Road will be 1.35km long and it will feature intermediate stops at Brindleyplace and Five Ways.

Work will also be carried out on the public realm along the route and this will include the planting of trees.

Follow here, with our community, developments as they take place along the tram extension.
